SAD demands CBI inquiry into political murder of Baba Gurdeep Singh
(Majithia and Cheema say with DGP showing helplessness to take action against Minister-Gangster nexus it would hold dharnas and approach courts to ensure justice for victims)
Chandigarh, January 2 – The Shiromani Akali Dal (SAD) today demanded a CBI inquiry into the political murder of former Sarpanch Baba Gurdeep Singh by the Jaggu Bhagwanpuria gang and said since the Punjab DGP was helpless in taking action against the Minister – Gangster nexus it would hold dharnas as well as approach courts to ensure justice for the victims.
Addressing a press conference here, former minister Bikram Singh Majithia said the brutal political assassination of Baba Gurdeep Singh was a direct result of threats being issued to him warning of dangerous consequences if he did not stop speaking against the Minister-Gangster nexus. “A message has been sent to me that my close political associates will be targeted if I do not stop speaking for justice for former Akali Sarpanch Dalbir Dhilwan who was also murdered in the same way like Baba Gurdeep Singh”.
Mr Majithia, who was accompanied with Dr Daljit Singh Cheema, said he had already approached Punjab DGP Dinkar Gupta seeking action against the Jaggu Bhagwanpuria gang in November but immediately afterwards the gangster was given a clean chit by an IG level officer. “Recently on December 24 I wrote to the SSP, Majitha and informed him that my associates were under threat and their safety should be assured but nothing was done despite providing specific information and subsequently Baba Gurdeep Singh was murdered”.
The SAD leaders said even as the State DGP and the police force was in sleep mode, gangsters were using social media to claim credit for contract killings and Jaggu Bhagwanpuria was sending Happy New Years posts along with AK – 47 pictures from jail besides posting selfies along with a gold chain regualarly. They said the Pavitar Gang, which was on offshoot of the Jaggu Bhagwanpuria gang, had recently claimed credit for a murder in which they shot a youth for targeting their close friend Harman Bhullar. The leaders said Harman’s mother had stood for election and lost against Baba Gurdeep Singh’s wife. “Since the police has admitted that the Pavitar gang was behind Baba Gurdeep Singh’s murder, it is clear who is running this gang and why they are resorting to the killings”, the leaders added.
Stating that he would not be deterred from his goal of exposing those like Jails minister Sukhjinder Randhawa who was patronizing gangsters like Jaggu Bhagwanpuria, Mr Majithia said “we will expose this nexus and will not allow the State police to indulge in a clean chit operation as per dictates of the Clean Chit government”. He said evidence against the Jail Minister was mounting with an under trial now disclosing that the Gurdaspur Jail Superintendent had openly bragged to him that no action could be taken against him because he had given Rs 60 lakh to Sukjinder Randhawa for his posting.
Meanwhile SAD Spokesman Parambans Romana highlighted how despite an FIR being registered at the instance of Faridkot social activist Rajinder Singh who was attacked in Faridkot jail by Shruti case convict Nishan Singh and ten other convicts no action was taken in the matter. “This despite the fact that Rajinder Singh clearly asserted that Nishan had threatened that he would be liquidated if he kept speaking against Faridkot Congress legislator Kushaldeep Singh Dhillon. From this it is clear that Congressmen are even using gangsters to target their rivals in jail”, Mr Romana added. EOM.
