In a major pro-poor initiative, the Jalandhar Commissionerate Police has ensured payment worth Rs 8.69 crore to 34000 labourers working in 730 industries of the city till March 30.
Divulging the details, the Commissioner of Police Mr. Gurpreet Singh Bhullar said that due to curfew these labourers working in factories, were facing trouble in maintaining their livelihood. In a goodwill gesture Mr. Bhullar took up the matter with the industrialists and asked them to pay the due wages of these labourers so they could meet any urgency. Accordingly 34,000 labourers from 730 industries were distributed Rs. 8.69 crores.
Likewise, the Commissioner of Police said that in order to ensure that the residents maintain social distance, for keeping the Corona Virus at bay, while going to banks and medical shops, the Commissionerate Police Jalandhar has made elaborate arrangements. Mr. Bhullar said that keeping in view safety and security of people during the times when banks and medical shops would open, two Police personnel have been deputed outside these shops and the banks. He said that they have been entrusted the task of streamlining the movement of public and ensuring that people maintain the needed social distance by earmarking the space outside them.
The Commissioner of Police said that senor officers were overseeing this entire work to streamline the issue. He also said that the Commissionerate Police also distributed 20740 food packets to the needy people in the city. Mr. Bhullar said that in consonance with the glorious tradition of the Punjab Police, the Commissionerate Police has distributed 1150 packets of dry ration was also delivered to the needy people. Likewise, he said that this would also continue in coming days to facilitate the people.
